Understanding BUS, SEG & MCS Certification

What It Means for AE Renewables Customers

At AE Renewables, we are committed to delivering high-quality renewable energy installations while ensuring full compliance with industry standards and government-backed schemes.

As part of this commitment, we want to clearly explain three important frameworks that may apply to your installation: the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS), the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG), and Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) certification.

Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS)

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is a UK government initiative designed to support homeowners in transitioning to low-carbon heating systems.

Through the scheme, eligible households can receive a grant to help cover the cost of installing technologies such as air source or ground source heat pumps.

This funding helps reduce upfront costs and encourages the move towards more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly heating solutions.

Smart Export Guarantee (SEG)

The Smart Export Guarantee enables households with renewable energy systems, such as solar PV, to earn payments for exporting unused electricity back to the grid.

Energy suppliers offer tariffs that pay you for the excess electricity your system generates, allowing you to maximise the value of your investment in renewable energy.

MCS Certification

AE Renewables is working towards / is certified under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS), a nationally recognised quality assurance scheme for renewable energy installations.

MCS certification ensures that both products and installations meet rigorous standards for performance, safety, and reliability.

It is also a key requirement for accessing certain government incentives, including the Boiler Upgrade Scheme and Smart Export Guarantee.

What This Means for You

Choosing AE Renewables means working with a company that:

  • Follows recognised industry standards
  • Provides installations designed to meet government scheme requirements
  • Supports you in understanding available incentives
  • Prioritises quality, safety, and long-term performance

Important Information

Eligibility for schemes such as the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) and Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) is subject to specific criteria and may change over time.

AE Renewables does not guarantee eligibility, and we recommend checking the latest government guidance or speaking to our team for advice tailored to your property and circumstances.

If you would like to learn more about renewable energy solutions or your eligibility for current schemes, please contact AE Renewables for further guidance.
